La Red Health Center, a major medical services provider, is moving to the new Milford Wellness Village, which is set to open this summer at the former site of Milford Memorial Hospital.

The hospital is now part of a Bayhealth campus.

La Red Health Center – a federally qualified health center serving all of Sussex County – provides primary health care and preventive services, oral healthcare and behavioral health service throughout Delaware for individuals of all ages, along with a variety of social services.

The move will expand La Red Health Center’s existing 6,524 square foot Milford family practice site to a9,960 square foot site.

“The primary purpose for this project is to add an oral health services program in Milford to address a significant amount of unmet dental health care needs of low-income, underserved populations in Sussex County,” said La Red Health Center’s CEO Brian Olson. “The new site will also allow La Red Health Center to expand its current women’s health, behavioral health, pediatric and family practice services to meet an ever increasing demand for access to high quality health care services.”

La Red Health Center becomes the third major organization to announce that it has signed a lease to locate at the Clarke Avenue site, joining Nationwide Healthcare Services’ Polaris Skilled Nursing Center and Kidz, Ink Academy of Early Academics childcare center.

Renovations at the site will begin immediately after Nationwide closes on the sale from Bayhealth and assumes ownership of the property. La Red Health Center will move to the site in October. The organization will add a dental suite with five dental operatories at the new site.

Services offered will include prenatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and elder primary care medicine and preventive programs: diabetes education, immunizations for children, routine school and sports physicals, HIV and other sexually transmitted disease testing and counseling, cancer screening, behavioral health and substance abuse and prescription assistance as well as the new preventive, routine and oral health services.

La Red Health Center will be adding staff for the dental program and the expansion of other areas.

“Being situated in the Wellness Village will allow other folks who may not be aware of La Red Health Center to become familiar with us because they will see our offices as they visit the other services provided there,’ noted Kevin Loftus, La Red’s Director of Development, Marketing & Communications. “Also, the office signage will be easy to see located right in the former Bayhealth cancer center on Clarke Avenue.”

The Milford location will offer a sliding scale fee structure, based on a patient or client’s ability to pay. Staff is bilingual in English and Spanish. Translation and transportation services are also available.

“The Wellness Village is taking shape. La Red Health Center is a lynchpin addition. We are eager to bring this project to fruition and open our doors to the public,” declared Nationwide’s Meir Gelley.
