Organization will expand and add dental care to its array of medical services

MILFORD, DE – May 8, 2019 – La Red Health Center, a major medical services provider, is moving to the new Milford Wellness Village, which is set to open this summer at the former site of Bayhealth Hospital.

La Red is a major provider of primary health care and preventive services throughout Delaware for individuals of all ages, along with a variety of social services.

“We could not be more pleased to have a top-notch medical provider like La Red join our mission at the Milford Wellness Village,” said Nationwide Healthcare Services CEO Meir Gelley, owner of the village.  “They represent not only a wonderful partner but also an ideal complement to our nursing home.”

The move will expand La Red Health Center’s existing 6,524 square foot Milford family practice site to a 9,960 square foot site.

“The primary purpose for this project is to add an oral health services program in Milford to address a significant amount of unmet dental health care needs of  low-income, underserved populations in Sussex County,” said Kevin Loftus, La Red’s Director of Development, Marketing & Communications. “The new site will also allow La Red to expand its current women’s health, behavioral health, pediatric and family practice services to meet an ever increasing demand for access to high quality health care services.”

La Red becomes the third major organization to announce that it has signed a lease to locate at the Clarke Avenue site, joining Nationwide Healthcare Services’ Polaris Skilled Nursing Center and Kidz, Ink Academy of Early Academics childcare center.

Renovations at the site will begin immediately after Nationwide closes on the sale from Bayhealth and assumes ownership of the property. La Red – a federal qualified health center serving all of Sussex County – will move to the site in October.  The organization will add five dental operating suites at the new site.

“The need for dental services in Sussex County is incredible,”

Services offered will include prenatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and elder primary care medicine and preventive programs:  diabetes education, immunizations for children, routine school and sports physicals, HIV and other sexually transmitted disease testing and counseling, cancer screening, family planning, mental health counseling, and prescription assistance as well as the new preventive, routine and emergency oral health services.

La Red will be adding staff for the dental program and the expansion of other areas.

“Being situated in the Wellness Village will allow other folks who may not be familiar with La Red to become familiar with us because they will see it as they visit the other services provided there,’ Loftus noted. “Also, the office signage will be easy to see located right in the former Bayhealth cancer center on Clarke Avenue.”

La Red accepts Medicare and Medicaid as well as most local employer sponsored commercial insurance plans. The Milford location will offer a sliding scale fee structure, based on a patient or client’s ability to pay. Staff is bilingual in English and Spanish. Translation and transportation services are also available.

Some retirees moving to the Milford area are finding a months-long wait to find a doctor. With the expanded La Red facility they’ll be able to get an appointment with a doctor much more quickly.

“The Wellness Village is taking shape. La Red is a lynchpin addition. We are eager to bring this project to fruition and open our doors to the public,” declared Nationwide’s Meir Gelley.
